Support for Address & Phone Book

Update
for Address & Phone Book (Version 7.0)

This update will correct a problem with the envelope printing feature and the
user dialog preferences. When you install this update, go into the program
folder ( The default is "C:\Program Files\Address & Phone
Book"), and delete the file "Phoneb95.hig".
When you start the program again, you need to re-enter your data in the user
preference and save it.
Make sure you have version 7.0 loaded on your computer.
After downloading the update, double-click on the file
(update7a.exe) and click
on the "UNZIP" button in the dialog. It should unzip into the
"default directory" Address & Phone Book directory, but if not,
you can click on "RUN WINZIP" and extract it into the right directory
using the browse button in WINZIP if you installed it into a different
directory. After it is installed, you can run the program from the START menu as
before with the original version. If you have problems, feel free to send me an

Below are some problems you may run into when using the program and
explanations of each.
Photos distorted in the Book frame:
The
photos will look distorted when you browse through the book. This is caused by
the photo stretching to fill the frame. If it is a small photo, it will enlarge
itself to fill the frame and like wise with large photos, they will shrink to
fit in the frame. You can resize the photo to an aspect of 3X5 before you load
it into the book with a paint program. This will make the picture less distorted
when it is in the book keeping to the aspect ration in the frame.
Run out of memory:
1. If you encounter a message suggesting you are out of memory, it may be caused by having to many photos in the book that are in Bitmap (BMP) format. Try to use either JPEG (JPG) or (GIF) format photos. They are much smaller and don't use as many resources to load.
2. If you only have 8 to 16 MB of memory and you have
a lot of entries in the book, you may run out of memory depending on how much memory windows is using.
Phone Dialer not working:
If the phone dialer dose not work, there could be two possible problems.
1. Check that you have the correct COM PORT selected for you computer. Check this by looking at the USER prefs dialog at the bottom under
COM PORT. If you are unsure what COM port your modem is connected to, open up CONTROL PANEL in windows (
click on the START button in Windows and go up to Settings and then Control Panel. When Control Panel is open, Double click on the Modems icon and a dialog will appear. At the top of the Modems dialog, click on the Diagnostics Tab. In the window, look for your modem and to the left of it will be the
COM Port it is connected to).
2. Sometimes when you dial a number, the program may not release the modem control back to the computer. (This sometimes happens when you try to dial another number directly after hanging up from another call previously in the program). If this happens, close the program and restart it, this usually clears the modem and should dial.
Database sluggish:
If the database becomes sluggish and slow, try compacting it from the Database Utilities. This will make it smaller and more
efficient. If it is still running slow, it may be the speed of you computer, not enough memory or to many (BMP) photos in the BOOK.
Word processor not functioning:
Only WordPad for Windows will work in the shareware version! If the WordPad is not working, you probably do not have it installed on your computer. You must go into your Windows setup and install WordPad for it to work. If it is installed, you have it somewhere besides the default and you must have the registered version of Address & Phone Book to use a word processor. Then you can add it as a Other Word Processor.
Printing Address Book:
If you print out the address book and it does not line up correctly, you probably have some very long entries in the book causing one text field to run into the next. This will cause the printer to print the next following field one line below, typing in all capital letters will also cause this because it takes up more space in the text field. To correct this, shorten the text fields that cause it or do not use all capital letters.
